4 GREEN SPACES THAT INSPIRE//DECORATING WITH PLANTS

3.03.2014

decorating with plants
for all the newbies around this spot, i am a huge green thumb wearing lover of plants.  i grow them everywhere.  i grow them big and small.  i grew some for our wedding, and have used plant cuttings to diy projects too.  i have realized this is truly a hobby of mine.  and it's nice to have a husband who doesn't mind sharing a space that may one day be overrun and filled with vines, trees, and anything else i deem to place in a pot.

plants are not only beneficial to your space (as they can help purify the air), but are an inexpensive fix for a design dilemma or a quick way to add some texture and interest to your home. not to mention, you can take cuttings from your plants ... root them ... and create more! seriously, this is one habit (or hobby) i don't intend to quit.

stay tuned, as i've got an idea swirling around in my head for an airplant display that will hopefully make its way into a diy post soon.

so, do you have a green thumb?
what's growing around your place?

  3. The only thing that's growing around here with my brown thumb is my orchid, and that's only because it simply requires three ice cubes a week to survive. And I even forget to do that sometimes!!

    1. way to keep that orchid alive! ... i have one (which we bought for 5.00 because it was on it's last leg and the store had it on clearance) which seems to be doing better. i'll have to try the ice cubes.

  4. Unfortunately, nothing growing around here right now. Unless you count mung bean sprouts :) Although, i did throw out some passion flower seeds last year along the side of the house and i'm curious to see if those come up at all. I love spider plants, violets, and succulents to name a few. Also, hoping to build some raised beds for a vegetable and herb garden this spring. Can't wait to see the air plant display!

  8. So pretty! I only have a few rooms that I can grow plants in because of all the cedar trees around our house...but the more we tear out walls, and put in more windows...I'm sure there will be more house plants. ;) Looking beautiful, especially the cacti! I miss growing drought tolerant stuff, all of the sedum and cactus I have had in this house have not made it.
